Wikimania 2008 in Cape Town?

Bidding for Wikimania 2008 opened on the 20th. I was very disappointed to miss the recent Wikimania 2007 in Taipei, and not to get a chance to put test my Mandarin to the test, although perhaps relief applies more in the case of the Mandarin. However, a combination of the strike delaying my passport, and having to move house at short notice, meant I couldn’t make it.

What better way to ensure I make the next one than by organising it in Cape Town? So, I’ve officially launched the Cape Town bid.

It’s still a little short of details (OK a lot), but at least it’s the first official bid out of the blocks! There are other unofficial bids though, which haven’t yet made their status official. Anyone wanting to help bring this fantastic event to Cape Town please dive in and help, or contact me at ian at this domain (greenman.co.za).

You should also read the various reference documents around the event:

  1. Still sourcing a venue, perhaps the CTICC, or perhaps one of the universities. It’s quite a big task, so right now I’m looking for all the help I can get 🙂

  2. If you can generate a list of things you need done, I’ll see if I can help out on some of them.

(Until then, I can suggest fixing the links to the reference documents – they’re going to your site, not Wikipedia’s)
