I’ve been experiencing lots of synchronicity. So perhaps I shouldn’t have been too surprised when, shortly after a conversation on the end of oil, the cities, mass deaths from the coming bird flu etc. with a friend of a rather more apocalyptic bent than me, the power in Cape Town gets cut (it turns out due to a Koeberg failure). It seems this is no longer just a Joburg phenomonen. I twiddle my thumbs, waiting for its imminent restoration. After 3 hours the workers installing the alarm give up and go home. Night falls. We eat fruit for supper. I prepare to take a Dark City shot from the bedroom window, only to find that power has been restored to the entire city except for a tiny little sliver in Oranjezicht, where I live. I read by candleight. At 9pm the power is still not restored, and I go to bed.
After the recent ADSL outage, I’m getting lots of practice for when it all falls apart

The traffic in town was horrific on Friday afternoon!
Also the misbehaving SAIX edge services router in Barrack Street is always having issues from what I’ve been hearing.
