Dmoz and Chefmoz

I’ve volunteered (and been accepted) to become an editor on dmoz, the open directory used by many search engines. I already see my free time disappearing , what with Wikipedia and now Dmoz.

For now I’ll be editing the section on South African news and media.

Dmoz also has a sister site called Chefmoz, a restaurant listing. There’re 40 of Cape Town’s thousands of restaurants listed, including some that are closed. I’ve added my current favourite, Mnandis, but there’s lots of work ahead!

  1. I’m beginning to enjoy your blog. Thank you.

A small point: In your Open Directory contribution you describe the Sunday Times as a “tabloid”. It’s in fact a broadsheet.

    Keep up the good work

  2. Thanks Hoosen. They’re mostly not actually my contributions – anyone can contribute. Being an editor just means I get to review others contributions, and fast track my own. I’ll correct the Sunday Times description.
