Organ and tissue donation

If anyone’s wondering whether their organs can be put to better use than worm food (or more ashes in the sky) after they die, take a look at the Organ Donation Foundation (South Africa only).
They have a nifty Web 2.0 site and a vibrant community. OK, not really, but you can register online.

If you’re worried that registering provides a licence to slice you up and rip out your heart before you’re dead, fear not. From the FAQ’s:

How do doctors know I am really dead?

Two doctors, who are completely independent of the transplant team, have to perform detailed tests before a person can be declared brain dead. The criteria for brain death are very strictly adhered to and accepted medically, legally and ethically in South Africa and internationally.

  1. I registered for organ donation. I just want to know whether this includes tissue donation. I would also like to find out about donating my body for sciende. I am 52 years old. Been diagnosed with fibromyalgia. I hope you would get back to me
