{"id":108,"date":"2006-12-01T15:49:42","date_gmt":"2006-12-01T13:49:42","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.greenman.co.za\/wordpress\/?p=108"},"modified":"2006-12-01T15:49:42","modified_gmt":"2006-12-01T13:49:42","slug":"acid-alex","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.greenman.co.za\/blog\/?p=108","title":{"rendered":"Acid Alex"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>A few days ago I finished reading <a href=\"http:\/\/www.acidalex.com\">Acid Alex<\/a>, by Al Lovejoy.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.thechiz.co.za\">TheChiz<\/a> has a <a href=\"http:\/\/thechiz.co.za\/archive\/2006\/04\/25\/The-Chiz.aspx\">great review<\/a>, and <a href=\"http:\/\/thechiz.co.za\/archive\/2006\/10\/17\/The-real-deal-with-al-lovejoy.aspx\">an interview<\/a> with the man himself.<\/p>\n<p>Dave Chislett (The Chiz) says that <em>In terms of popular culture and understanding a couple of generations of white South Africans, this is the most important book ever written about South Africa.<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I think he&#8217;s right. It may be tricky for foreigners to understand (or South Africans unfamiliar with the particular subculture) &#8211; it probably compares to Trainspotting in that regard, but there&#8217;s a glossary at the back, so don&#8217;t let that stop you.<\/p>\n<p>Apparently some sanctimoniusly moronic bookstores refused to stock it. I&#8217;d love to know which ones.
