But that phenomonen that so many tried to copy, the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.milliondollarhomepage.com\/\">Million Dollar homepage<\/a>, is <a href=\"http:\/\/wired.com\/wired\/archive\/14.06\/posts.html?pg=2\">back in the news<\/a> again.<\/p>\n<p>Alex Tew, who came up with the idea, promised his advertisers that their ads would remain visible for up for 5 years. A bunch of extortionists decided to get in on the act, and threaten to take down the site if they were not paid $50 000. Tew refused, and they struck, with the help of their zombie machines, taking the site offline for 6 days.
