I have about as waterwise a garden as you can get, the back garden being a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Fynbos\">fynbos<\/a>-covered hill. However, with last year&#8217;s dry winter, and the hot summer, even established plants have been dying (if I could find the cable for my digital camera I&#8217;d show you lots of exciting pictures of dead plants at this point).<\/p>\n<p>Today saw a storm of note. It&#8217;s been strangely misty the last few days, unusual Cape weather, and this afternoon the storm broke. Massive thunder and lightning, torrential rain, howling winds. A wonderful evening for being out on <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Signal_Hill_%28Cape_Town%29\">Signal Hill<\/a>. We were on the way to see 34 South, a local film of still-to-be-determined quality, but for a photographer friend the call of the lightning was too strong. Instead I got blasted by hurricane-force pine cones, practised tai chi rooting to avoid being blown off the observation deck, and saw some spectacular lighting, and wonderful silhouettes of Lion&#8217;s Head. Not to mention some choice red wine and chocolate. Hopefully Craig will be kind enough to send me some shots, so I can finally add some colour to this blog.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Cape Town has been bone dry recently.
