Yup, I’ve resigned from IOL<\/a>. It’s been 5 great years, and it’s a sad time to go, as IOL is on the brink of what will hopefully be an excellent year, but it’s time to move on. <\/p>\n

Where to?<\/p>\n

Well, nowhere actually. I’ve been easing out of work for a while, working 3-days a week, and now it will be none. At the ripe old age of 33 I’m ‘retiring’. Hopefully everything I do will be seen as play now. I may write an update to the book (I once read it take 18 months to get over writing a book. After I finished I vowed I’d never repeat the insanity. It’s now 24 months… Perhaps it’s like having a child. After a few 4am mornings I’m vowing ‘never again’, but I’m sure I’ll change my mind later). I may invest in a restaurant (yes, I must have lost it). I plan to practise more tai chi<\/a>. I started 9 years ago, and it’s time to rack it up to the next level, in case the next machete or glass-bottle-wielding maniac has a companion.<\/p>\n

After I made the announcement yesterday, everything started looking quite purple and melancholic. I began to miss the water bottle on someone’s desk, the beeping noise of the working but not quite right server that’s been on the todo list for months, if not years. And the wonderful people I’ve worked with for the last 5 or so years (or, in the case of David, 5 hours, as he started work the day I resigned!) <\/p>\n

Perhaps I’ve been ruined by my way too many slacker hippy friends who’re not working and always asking me to the beach, on weekends away, to parties. Perhaps it’s a combination of taking the car in for a service and turning my 30 minute commute into a 90 minute one, and Dorje waking up at 4am for about a week now, leaving me a sleepless, irrational wreck. But it’s a good feeling, I’m happy with the decision, and excited about the future. <\/p>\n

Once the job description is available on IOL I’ll post a link here. I’m sure the recruitment agencies will get wind of it soon enough, and my phone will be off the hook, but hopefully they don’t read blogs and will give me a day or two’s peace!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
