I was very disappointed to miss the recent <a href=\"http:\/\/meta.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Wikimania_2007\">Wikimania 2007<\/a> in Taipei, and not to get a chance to put <a href=\"http:\/\/www.greenman.co.za\/b2evolution\/blogs\/index.php?p=410&amp;more=1&amp;c=1&amp;tb=1&amp;pb=1\">test my Mandarin<\/a> to the test, although perhaps relief applies more in the case of the Mandarin. However, a combination of the strike delaying my passport, and having to move house at short notice, meant I couldn&#8217;t make it.<\/p>\n<p>What better way to ensure I make the next one than by organising it in Cape Town? So, I&#8217;ve officially launched the <a href=\"http:\/\/meta.wikimedia.org\/wiki\/Wikimania_2008\/Bids\/Cape_Town\">Cape Town bid<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>It&#8217;s still a little short of details (OK a lot), but at least it&#8217;s the first <em>official<\/em> bid out of the blocks! There are other unofficial bids though, which haven&#8217;t yet made their status official.
